Q10066 - FAQ: Cannot edit text in a PDF document

The information in this article applies to:

  • All versions of Nitro PDF Professional.

Question

I am unable to edit text in a PDF document. What am I doing wrong?

Answers

1. The document author has set the security options to disallow making changes. In this case you can try to change the security settings on the document. If you do not have the password you will need to contact the document author to ask for the password or an unsecured version of the file.

2. The PDF you're trying to edit was created from a scanned document. Scanned document only contain an image based representation of text. This means that there is no actual text in the document to edit. Nitro PDF Professional OCR includes the technology which allows you to identify text in a scanned document, to then edit or re-purpose the document accordingly.
