The information in this article applies to:

  • All versions of Nitro PDF Professional

Question

Is it possible to reduce the file size of existing PDFs using Nitro PDF Professional?

Answer

Yes, there are few different techniques that can be used to reduce the size of an existing PDF document.

1. Using the 'Save As' function instead of just 'Save'

For a full explanation on how using the 'Save As' function reduces the file size of an edited PDF, please read this article from our PDF Blog:

Differences between Save & Save As

Generally, it is best to use the 'Save As' function when you have finished all necessary editing for your particular PDF.

To do this:

1. Click on the Nitro Pro button located in the top left-hand corner.
2. Select Save As.

2. Use the 'Optimize Document' feature

Nitro PDF Professional has an inbuilt PDF Optimizer which can remove unwanted objects from you PDF such as annotations, JavaScript, embedded fonts, etc., as well as change the level of compression used in your images, all of which can help reduce your file size.

To do this:

1. Click on the Nitro Pro button located in the top left-hand corner.
2. Select Prepare > Optimize Document.

Note: Users of Nitro PDF Professional version 4 can access the PDF Optimizer by selecting Document > Optimize.
